Getting started
Moving On is for two people splitting shared belongings — a couple, roommates, anyone moving apart. You inventory what you own together, agree on who keeps what, and walk away with a settlement you both signed off on. Here's how it works, step by step.
1. Install the app
Moving On is available on iPhone first. You'll receive an invite to install it through TestFlight, Apple's app for early-access apps:
- Open the invite link on your iPhone. If you don't have TestFlight yet, the App Store will prompt you to install it (it's free) — then come back to the invite link.
- In TestFlight, tap Install next to Moving On.
- Open Moving On from your home screen, just like any other app.
Android and web versions are on the way.
2. Sign in
There are no passwords. Enter your email and we'll send you a magic link — tap it to sign in. Open the link on the same iPhone where you installed the app. If it doesn't arrive in a minute, check your spam folder or request a new one.
3. Start a session, or join one
A session is one shared list between the two of you. Only one person creates it:
- If you're setting things up, tap Start a Session. You'll get an invite code to share.
- If the other person already started one, tap Join a Session and enter the invite code they give you. (If they password-protected the session, you'll also need that password from them.)
4. Invite the other person
From the session, open Invite the Other Person. You can share the invite code directly, or send them an email invite from the app. They sign in the same way you did and land in the same session.
5. Add your stuff
Either of you can add items, anytime. Two ways:
- Scan Items — tap Take a Photo or Choose from Library, and the AI pulls out what it sees and fills in a name, category, and estimated value for each. Review what it found, fix anything that looks off, and add it to your list.
- Add Manually — type in an item yourself.
Free sessions hold up to 10 items. Need more? See Premium below.
6. Negotiate who keeps what
Open Negotiate. For each item, one of you makes a proposal — keep it and pay the other person to balance things out, have them keep it and pay you, or sell it and split the proceeds. The other person can accept or counter. It's all asynchronous: you don't have to be online at the same time, and every item shows whether it needs your action, is waiting on your partner, or is already agreed.
7. Settle up
Once you've worked through your items, tap Generate Settlement. It adds up who keeps what, who owes whom, and anything you're selling, into one clear summary you can both see. With Premium you can also download it as a PDF or share it as a link.
Common questions
What is Moving On, exactly?
A fair way for two people to divide shared belongings. Instead of arguing item by item, you build one inventory together, trade proposals on who keeps what, and end with a settlement that shows the final split and any money owed — so everyone walks away with the same record.
How much does it cost?
It's free to try. A free session includes AI scanning, negotiation, up to 10 items, and viewing your settlement in the app. Premium unlocks unlimited items, a downloadable PDF of your settlement, and a shareable link. It's a one-time purchase per session — never a subscription.
Do we both have to pay for Premium?
No. One purchase unlocks Premium for both people in that session.
How accurate are the AI valuations?
They're estimates to give you a starting point, and each one shows how confident the AI was. You can edit any name, category, or value before adding it — and adjust again later. Treat them as a helpful first guess, not an appraisal.
Do we both need to be online at the same time?
No. Negotiation is asynchronous. One of you can make proposals now, and the other can respond hours or days later. Each item tracks whose turn it is.
I didn't get my sign-in (magic) link. What now?
Give it a minute, then check your spam or promotions folder. Make sure you entered the right email, and open the link on the same iPhone where the app is installed. Still nothing? Go back and request a new link, or email us.
Which devices can I use?
iPhone today, through TestFlight. Android and web versions are coming.
How do I reset my account?
Moving On uses magic-link email sign-in, so there's no password to reset. Just enter your email on the sign-in screen and we'll send you a new link.
How do I delete my account?
Email support@movingonapp.com from the address on your account. We'll delete your data within 30 days.
Is my data secure?
Yes. All traffic is encrypted over HTTPS, credentials are stored in AWS Secrets Manager, and we don't use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. See our Privacy Policy for details.
